From the moment her new Language Arts teacher Mrs. McDermott announced a semester long group project on the first day of seventh grade, Zorah had it all planned out: an easy, drama-free group project about the many benefits of eating cake. Simple. Fun. Zero complications.

Then Mrs. McDermott decides to have the entire class draw numbers out of a Dr. Seuss hat to assign groups, and Zorah discovers that she's landed in the exact group she had desperately hoped to avoid.

This is the story of the Cake Gang that never got the chance to exist, and the far messier, far more interesting group that took its place.

Little do the four unlikely members of this new group know that this project would completely change their lives... forever.
